Critical Information Studies is exactly what I was looking for in a major when I began looking at American Studies.
I think I found what I was looking for, now to make it happen…

All Beter
Everything is working again, but there are no upgrades…
I think the code I was working with is too buggy to try and get to work on this site, so I’ll do all the testing and tweaking on another site, and see if I get get it to work here after.
eh
Bromley
So yay, I got to go boardin today.
Bromley, VT.
I got about 45 minutes of sleep before I got up at 5:30 to get ready to go. I’m sure thats healthy.
Santi was supposed to come with, but apparently he had gone to a casino in NY last night and got as much sleep as I did, so he bailed in favor of snooze.
Didn’t sleep for more than 10 mins on the way up, so needless to say I was in great shape to hit the slopes.
9ish we got on the mountain. Took the whole morning slow. Didn’t do anything crazy, but didn’t do anything fun either. The snow was harder than it ever has when I’ve been there before, so my edge was having trouble digging in.
After lunch, the sun had been out for a while, and more people had gone down the runs, so they were nice and soft, which was perfect.
Took another break two hours later, and once we got back on the trails, they had changed again. This time, all the good snow which had made my last time down so great had been pushed to the side, leaving the stuff I had in the beginning of the day. I found this out when I wiped out hard on Havok. I’m pretty sure I pulled something in my neck, and I know I heard my back crack (like knuckles, not like paralyze’d).
Got off the mountain around 3, ate dinner at the Student Prince in Springfield, and came back home. Thankfully, I slept most of the way back.
The problem is, I know I’m not going to get to sleep before 4 tonight. I’m gonna be so messed up for school.
Anywise, that was today, but what about tomorrow?
SHOPPING!!
Now, its rare I’m excited about shopping, but I’m going to Sam’s Club, where they sell Animal Crackers by the pound. I’m stocking up on snacks for my dorm room, which you can never, ever have enough of. If all goes well, I should be able to survive in my room without any outside contact for over a month.
UPDATE:
2lbs Cheerios
5lbs Animal Crackers
4.1lbs Goldfish
3lbs Pretzels
Heart Sam’s Club
Broken
Spring Break – always a good thing.
This will actually mean more posts, but probably in the wee hours of the morning.
Like this one.
I really want to work on the Juan Way tour, but a lot of what I want to do needs to wait for me to get the bus, which is a ways off.
Plus, it seems most of the work I’ll be doing on it will be alone, which kind of sucks. Not that I’m really expecting anyone to be as passionate about this as I am.
A reason for that may be because its still my project, when it should really belong to everyone who is involved.
I think sometime this week I’ll make a map, with destinations, times, etc. That’d be a good start. I should do something about the site as well.
That won’t happen thhis week.
I think I need something to break the monotany. If I’m lucky, I’ll get a boardin trip to some mountain up north this week. That would do a good job.
Here is an idea I began to seriously consider this last week. It has been tossed around by several people in the past, but I normally dismissed it.
The idea is a blogging service which is totally anonymous. Possibly with users, who would have their own blogs, with the option to make a post totally anonymous. If I was to follow through with this, it would take place of the current somjuan.com. I’d also probably keep a blog with the normal kind of links I do right now(I don’t think I could just stop), but that wouldn’t be the main focus of the site.
I’d really like some feedback on this, and I may eventually make it into a poll.
Thats it for today.
Juan Way Redux
Alright, this is the current plan of the Juan Way Tour.
It will happen in the summer of 2009, with a few festivals in the spring (just festivals, no other stops on the way there or back).
The vessel which will bring us about the country will be a modified school bus, which I will have completed by the summer of 2008 (at which point we will test it out with a mini-trip). The bus will not sleep any more than 4 people.
The plan is to hit as many music festivals, cities, landmarks, etc as possible in the summer. All of this will be published to its own website in video, picture, and text form.
Now, most festivals charge for admission, but hopefully I will be able to convince them that the massive exposure from the website will justify free entry for whoever is on the bus, and maybe a few others.
Gas is not a problem, because the bus will be running on veggie oil, which restaurants give away for free.
Food is going to be one of the few consistant costs through the whole tour, but it won’t total too high (its not like we’re going to be dining like kings during this).
Certain festivals accept volunteers, who get free admission and food, in exchange for a few hours of work each day. This may be another option.
This is going to be a massive trip, and people are welcome to tag along / take off whenever they please.
This trip has changed from a massive road trip to something far bigger, which I don’t expect many people to stay on for the whole thing.
Maybe we’ll pull a huge road trip in 08, sans festivals, which more people could join. We’ll see.
So, yes, this shall be massive. Post any questions you have, because I’m sure I have the answer to them.
Since dates for festivals change each year, I don’t have a list of which we will be attending yet, but visit jambase.com to see a list of many, many potentials. Three that I will hit no matter what are Bonnaroo, Wakarosa, and Greyfox.
Juan Way Signage
Thats right, I’ve got a pair of Juan Way street signs. One will be installed over the door, and the other over the driver’s side window on the bus.
I’m pretty happy it made it here, since the confirmation email I got only listed a billing address (no shipping addy) and I had no idea where it would be delivered. Thankfully, it showed up today in Storrs, addressed to Joe Groeneweghn Paganette. I have no idea how they came up with that.
For the time being, one will hang from the end of my bed, and the other will find a home soon enough (perhaps in The Truck).
Stratton
All yesterday, I was at Stratton Mtn in Vermont.
We were on the mountain at 9am, and got off around 3. Visibility was really low for most of the day, since most of the mountain was in a cloud. Most of the day was amazing, because the conditions were perfect. As the day went on, it got colder and things started to freeze. On the last run of the day, I couldn’t even dig an edge in, since the runs were almost entirely ice.
Super Bowl Sunday is always a great day to go boarding. Most people camp at home and watch the game, so the mountain is close to empty.
2nd Semester
Well, second semester finally kinda started for me. I had a bumpy start switching majors and choosing classes, but its all worked out, like it somehow always does.
Overall, this semester is looking 100 times better than the first. Not only do I have teachers who are interesting and passionate about what they teach, but the subjects they are teaching are interesting. Good combination. There is one exception, English. My professor is the most straitlaced and dull peron I have met to date. I think the class has the potential to be interesting, but I know it will never achieve it.
Eh.
PagCam is back online. Always fun.
Couple things about the site in general. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve removed Google’s AdSense ads from the site. They weren’t bringing in any money, and they made the pages load slower, so byebye. Also, as I mentioned in the shoutbox, I made the word of the moment link to a google search for that word(s). This is mainly because I ended up doing this anyway with weird words or phrases, just to see what came up. And being the lazy person I am, I decided to make my life easier with code. w00t
End transmission.
Non-Lyric Blog
Seriously, I don’t get the blog entries entirely cocsisting of lyrics. Its like modern art. It may mean something to the artist/poster, but it means something completely different, if anything at all, to everyone else.
Anyway, I took last week off as most of you probably noticed. At the end of the week, I started to get the urge to rebuild the site. No worries, I won’t be doing it for a long time if ever.
I’ve been feelin kinda sick today, so that means I’ll be sitting in front of my computer for most of today, which means I’ll get everything worth posting posted.
Finals Week
If you’re curious why there have been little/no updates to somjuan, this should only be until Friday. This is finals week at UConn, and much of my time is devoted to studying (I need to learn math tomorrow).
In the meantime, if you keep submitting articles, they’ll keep getting posted (I do notice and appreciate those).
Pity me, and all fellow students who have to wade through this mess.
