Yes, Nintendo’s Wii.

People in the know are expecting a price and release date announcement any day now(with good reason), and some retailers are already taking pre-orders.
Not only is the Wii backwards compatible with GameCube games, controllers, and memory cards, but it is also a dvd player. And it is smaller, better looking, and presumably cheaper than the other two ‘next-gen’ consoles.

But what will obviously make or break this system is the new controller. If it is easy to use (as most people have reported), then I wouldn’t be surprised if this system beats the XBox 360 (especially considering how poorly the 360 is doing in Japan).

Software-wise, Wii has both systems beat. Hands down. It builds off the existing GameCube library of games, and you’ll be able to download games from NES, SNES, N64, and even some Genesis games. Something that intrigues me, even more than the possibility of retro gaming, is that Spore will be coming to the Wii. And the DS. And since the DS will be able to communicate with the Wii, we can presume that there will be some interaction between the two. Whoa.

Hardware-wise, Wii is using a PowerPC CPU and an ATI GPU, which will give it graphics on par with both the 360 and PS3. Although both of those systems have more powerful hardware than the Wii, I really don’t see it making a difference, especially since game developers have yet to take full advantage of the 360s graphics, and the same can be assumed for the PS3.

If the price point is around $200 as it is expected to be…I may just buy this system after all…

O’Rourke’s Diner

http://orourkesdiner.com/
If you haven’t heard yet, O’Rourke’s Diner in Middletown had a very serious fire.
The inside is a total loss, and they aren’t sure if they’ll be able to use the shell.
One thing that is for sure is that they have a lot of support, and if they should choose to try and rebuild, the community will be behind them 100%.
I for one loved the diner, and hope they will try to resurect it. Take a look at the website and forums, if you feel like I do.

So I’ve brought the main somjuan.com site back online, and I plan on starting serious work on it in the coming weeks.

Here is the roadmap:

    1. Finish all basic coding by the end of September
    2. Put the site into open Alpha in October. This means that people will be able to sign up, and start making content, but the site will not be stable yet, and should be expected to act weirdly, drop data, etc.
    3. The site will go into open Beta in Feb, and will be stable enough for permanent use. The only change is that things will continue to keep changing until Mayish.
    4. Site goes live. Hopefully.

Damn, thats a long time from now…

Some other changes I’ve made (to this site). My Flickr photos are now all accessable from john.paganetti.com/flickr. Fun.
Also, I’ve included a thumbnail of my webcam in the sidebar of this blog. You can click it to see the larger image. I’m trying to find a better location for the camera…right now its pretty boring.

Stay tuned…

Uh Oh

Thats right, I’m starting a blog.

Well, sort of.

I had a blog on the old somjuan.com, and I wanted to keep one running somewhere.

So this is it.

I’m also going to try to include a tune from somewhere online that is good enough that you should be listening to it.

That is Jericho by Stolen Ogre, and you can find the mp3 here.

Imported Entries

Every entry on this blog prior to this one was imported by hand from the old somjuan.com blogs.

Because it was imported by hand, there may be some errors in the date, but the content is exactly as it appeared on the old site.

Juan Fest

These last couple days for me have been amazing. Thursday night, Ten Past Midnight performed at Java, and in addition to actually hearing the music this show, I got to see lots of people who I hadn’t seen in a very long time. All in all, a kickass time.

But Friday was able to beat it, with zombies marching on Main St. Stopping at all three coffee shops on and off of main st, we covered decent ground, and generally had a good time. *waits for video*

And tonight, I caught a few hours of live music. I tuned into AT&T’s blue room (at Bonnaroo) just as Damian Marley was finishing his set, so I caught the entire My Morning Jacket performance, which lasted from 9:30 to 12:30…such awesomeness should not be had in such a short span of days.

The only question is, what will tomorrow bring?

Regret

I had a feeling tonight that I don’t get often. I actually regretted something. To this point in my life, I can only say that I really regret one thing, and I’ve had other little regrets, but they don’t matter, and I forget them moments after.
I drove by some fire dancers at weslyan tonight, and I thought about pulling over and watching. I thought about it the entire way home. I feel like I really missed out on something, and I don’t really know why. I’ve seen fire dancers before, and its something I enjoy, and I didn’t really have anything I needed to be home for…bah

I don’t like regret much.

Anywise, I haven’t been doing much updating on this site since I’ve been working a 9-5. Spend most of my free time on side projects and just kickin back. I still encourage people to submit articles. It’d be pretty cool if this site became really interactive.

I’m gonna go find something else to do.

Gain

Ok, so as far as I know, I’ll be back at UConn next year.

I’ve been moving my room around so it will be liveable again. Since I’m going to be here for 3-4 months, I may as well enjoy it.

The PagCam will be up eventually. Not sure where I will put it yet, but it’ll find a new home.

Also, thanks for all the birthday wishes. Both on here and elsewhere. 19 is a pretty crappy year because nothing happens. You just get older. Yay…

Anywise, I got a freebord, which I will start to play around with once it stops raining. I’m going to be looking for some decent hills which will provide me with runs that will last longer than a couple minutes. I think Atkins Street is the best hill I’ve found so far in town, but I’m sure there are others.

Lastly, incase anyone is missing me on AIM, I forgot my password, so I can’t get on it from my laptop. Once I get my desktop set up again, I’ll be back in action.

Till next time,

Loss

Bad news folks. Lots of bad news.

Firstly: my external hard drive for music fell off of my computer, and onto the ground, which is a pretty nasty, unsoft fall. I haven’t been able to get my computer to recognise it yet, so thats no good. I might have lost 200 gigs of music. FUN

Next, my computer is dying on me too. For one reason or another, music now only comes out of the right speakers, or right headphone. That ain’t right, and I know its some sort of hardware issue (balance is correct everywhere).

Lastly, Firefox doesn’t like me anymore. I updated to 1.5.0.3, and now I can’t get to anywhere on the web. It is probably an extention that doesn’t play nicely with the new firefox update, but I really don’t want to uninstall all of them only to find that wasn’t the problem in the first place.

SO, this is the deal. Since this is finals week for me anyway, and I’m forced to use IE (I’ve forgotten how trashy it is), I’m not updating the site. I’m just not happy that this place is killing all of my comp parts.
Even my laptop got messed up by a powersurge up here.

I should return to this site on Monday, and I’ll be officially done with freshman year :)

See you all then.
