Landshark

Had a meeting tonight for the new incarnation of Landshark. We’ve been having weekly meetings for a while now, and we’re really building up steam. Still some big hurdles in our way, but we’re figuring it all out, and it feels like it is going to really take off. Exciting times.

Almost Legit

After that server move, some stuff on the Landshark site got messed up, and I only just got around to fixing it. I almost went and recoded the site before I figured out the problem was simple enough to fix. That site really is a piece of crap, and someday I’m going to have to rewrite it. I’m not looking forward to that.

I finally installed Apache locally, so I can play around with things offline. This is seriously something I should have done years ago, but never did. Though I bookmarked MAMP, I went with xampp. I’m pretty sure MAMP is just a downstream version of xampp, except that they changed it enough that it performed significantly worse on my system. Whatever the case, I’m now almost legitimate. I’m still a pretty casual coder, but this might actually take me to the next level.

Landshark Status

Scott and I went down around Main St letting people know we exist, and that they should totally give us money. The funny thing is, our service is actually better than other advertising services (numbers wise). We’re cheaper per inch and per impression than newspaper and television respectively. Its just a weird concept, and its a little difficult getting people to understand exactly what we do. No, we don’t just print t-shirts. We send them to people. Its advertising.

We’re also getting ready to have other people go out and start making sales in places we can’t get to. Hopefully, they’re better at selling than we are, and we’ll all come out better because of it.

This whole business idea has a lot of catch 22s. Its easier to get people to advertise on the shirts when we have a lot of subscribers, but there are only so many subscribers you can get without giving out anything. Many businesses will never advertise with us because they don’t know we exist, but if we had shirts in circulation, businesses see this opportunity, and actually consider it.

So, I posted a roadmap for somjuan.com a month or so back, which outlined where that site would be heading. Needless to say, I’m no where near on track with that.
The reason for that happens to be the reason for this post. I currently have another project, which I can’t really talk about. I’m starting a business with some friends, and it has been taking precedence in my mind for some time now, and will soon be taking precedence in my actions. Since most of my free time is going to be aimed at this business, somjuan.com won’t be worked on in a regular schedule. Consider that project suspended until my business venture succeeds or fails.
That isn’t to say I’m not going to be working on it at all. I’ll likely get to work on it quite a bit, but not in a schedule which I could stick by. Might as well check back from time to time to see if anything has changed.
I will of course mention any progress here.
