Tuck and Roll
It’s almost happening again. Less so this week, but last week I felt it creeping up on me. Habit. More than habit, routine. The same thing, day in day out. It’s a great way to lose track of time, and a great way to cruise through a week of school, or any time when you would rather be doing something else. But that’s not what I’m trying for this summer. Days need to be memorable, or else you lose them.
I always think of blowing through days by way of habit as “tuck and roll”. If you’ll bear with the metaphor, it works pretty well. When life is good, you’re walking through life. You’re not in a rush to get anywhere, and you notice things around you in greater detail than you normally would. When you’re working towards a goal, you’re running through life, and you see things rush by you, but you only pay them a slight bit of attention, since you’re looking at the goal. When you just want to the days to disappear, you tuck and roll, and suddenly everything is a blur, and you can’t really see anything right – maybe you see something, but its upside down – and then suddenly, you’ve traveled all this distance without really knowing how.
Routine is a great way to do this, if that’s the goal. Same thing every day makes days blur together. They’re easily forgotten, which makes it seem like less time doing whatever you’re doing. But I’m not trying to tuck and roll, I just tripped. I’m glad I’m out of the swing of things again, and I’m going to have to try to keep it that way. The other night I found myself with nothing to do, and it was a beautiful night, and I thought about going for a bike ride. I didn’t, but next time I will.

Rugs
We cleaned a bunch of the rugs we got out of Weslyan’s dumpsters today. Turns out there is a lot of hair in rugs. But in any case, they should be ready for use in the bus, whenever we get around to that. I’ll be posting stuff about the floor plan soon. […]
We cleaned a bunch of the rugs we got out of Weslyan’s dumpsters today. Turns out there is a lot of hair in rugs. But in any case, they should be ready for use in the bus, whenever we get around to that. I’ll be posting stuff about the floor plan soon. The bus will be able to sleep 8 people in beds (12 if we use the floor). The overflow folks (or really, whoever wants to) can sleep in a tent or on the roof.
Robert Krampf Rules
Robert Krampf is awesome. I’m certain I’ve had a video or two of his in my linkroll before. He does this Experiment of the Week, where he makes a video of a cool science experiment every week, and posts them online. It seems that it is primarily sent out through a mailing list, but I don’t really care for mailing lists, even if they are for interesting things (why I unsubscribed from B3TA‘s newsletter).
Today I was browsing around Blip.tv, and I noticed he uploads his videos to blip! This is great, because blip automatically generates an RSS, iTunes, and even Miro (Democracy) feed for their shows. So now I can get the Experiment of the Week in Google Reader. I’m very happy, because I love this show. If you liked Bill Nye, you’ll love Robert Krampf. He’s the science teacher you wish you had.
Hrmm
Well, I’m calling the 30 day thing. This is technically a month after my string of posts started (even if its not a month after I said I’d go for it). Life isn’t especially interesting at the moment. It hit an especially interesting spike this past weekend with all the Tour stuff going on, but now that’s going to peter down and I’ll have to take care of Landshark and where I’m going to be living next year, and other such stuff. I’ll still post pretty often, but I won’t post just for the sake of posting. I was sort of hoping it would make me post about things I usually wouldn’t, but for the most part I just half-assed it with pictures and videos and posts from the Tour blog. Whatever.
I got a 2GB microSD card for my phone. Its amazing how much of a change a $14 addition can make. Pictures will be higher resolution, videos will be longer (I can theoretically record 28 hours of video, but the battery wouldn’t last that long).
So life is good, and I’m going to bed.
Bah
Email posting is being weird. I tried to post that picture from my
phone yesterday, and it didn’t go up. So I righted that wrong today,
but a second attempt at posting an entry from my phone failed just the
same. So I’m a little annoyed, but I am still making daily posts,
whether they show up here or not. Stupid technology.
Whatever the case, I’m in no position to deal with it today. I didn’t
sleep much, and I have a massive headache, so I’m in a bit of a weird
place. No matter, I’m going to do a bunch of errands tomorrow and get
these stupid things off my mind. Then I can work on the bus.
Eh
Distracted
I’ve been pretty distracted ever since I got home. I’ve been playing around a lot on the internet, but most importantly I don’t really have a concept of time yet. I’m counting this as a post for Monday, because I’m not asleep yet. Yes, that means I’m using both definitions of days for this 30 day thing. I don’t know what day it is, odds are I’ll just keep doing it until I feel its been long enough to check.
I have no routine here, which is great. I’d like to live my whole life like that, but it is incredibly counter-productive. Getting things done at any scale larger than toast is difficult. So I need to fall into a routine that includes room for stupid adventures. That has never happened in as long as I’ve been trying for it to happen. Meh, its summer.
