So the schedule for Bonnaroo 2007 is up, and it gives me a pretty different impression than what I got from just looking at the artist lineup.

There are a number of conflicting sets, so I’ll either need to miss some or all of a large number of artists. Which is probably ok. I knew it would happen, coming to a festival as large as Bonnaroo, but I’d rather see entire sets. There are a few bands who I’ll see no matter what. But otherwise, it looks like I’ll be doing a lot of tent-hopping.

Here is what I’m planning on seeing, but I’m going to try and be as flexible as possible.

A few comments:
– I will see The String Cheese Incident and Keller Williams (WMD’s) no matter what. This is SCI’s last year touring with Bill Nershi, so I want to see them while I still can. And Keller is touring with his ‘dream band’ so I’m not going to miss that either.
– The first conflict on my list is The Black Keys vs. an acoustic Tea Leaf Green set. I’m leaning towards TLG, because the tent is going to be packed, so showing up half way into it isn’t a great option.
– The next conflict isn’t one that I’m debating, just one I’m upset about. String Cheese vs. STS9 vs. TBD (superjam?) vs. Mago featuring Billy Martin & John Medeski. I’ll stay for the whole SCI set, because its likely that STS9 will still be playing. If that other set is indeed the superjam, then I shall be sad. But not too sad, because SCI, Martin and Medeski will be on stage at that same time, so the superjam won’t be too amazing. I’ll keep telling myself that.
– Next is Hot Tuna and Ziggy Marley vs. Railroad Earth and acoustic Warren Haynes. I’m thinking I’ll end up at the later, because they’re both in the same tent, and Railroad will be good, but Warren Haynes will absolutely pack that tent. It would be good to be there early.
– Keller Williams vs. Spoon vs. Ween vs. Ben Harper vs. Franz Ferdinand. I’ll see Keller but I’m sad about the bands I’ll miss.
– The Flaming Lips vs. Gov’t Mule vs. Galactic w/lots of guests. Fuck. These were three bands I really wanted to see. Odds are I’ll make TFL my priority, and check in on Mule once its over. They’ll still be jammin, I’m pretty sure of that. I’d like to see Galactic, but I just don’t think it’ll happen.
– Wolfmother vs. T-Bone Burnett vs. Flight of The Conchords plus Demetri Martin. This one is really damn hard. I have no idea what I’m going to do here.

I think those are the big ones. Otherwise its just overlap, and I’ll probably just catch a little of this, and a little of that. All in all, if it works out well, I’ll be seeing over 30 artists over the course of 4 days. :D

John Rush

Cool dude, that John Rush. Played at UConn tonight in the student union. Had good tunes, so we stuck around. Much better option than studying. So after the show we got to talking to him, and he’s a pretty interesting dude. Says he tours about 150 days out of the year, which is insane, but it is pretty much the only way to make any money as an independent artist.

I’d suggest listening to some tunes from his site, and if you’re particularly into his stuff, buy a CD. I like his song Time Wasted a lot. I’d embed it here, but his site won’t let me hotlink. Oh well, go find it for yourself. Free download, good tunes.

This probably doesn’t deserve its own post,
but I just left feeling so good, I had to try and share it.

Keller Williams at the Webster

So I’ve been meaning to write about this for some time, but I’ve waiting in the hope that recordings of the show will make it online. But it seems the tapers that night weren’t going to be sharing (at least not on the sites I frequent).

In any case, I saw Keller at the Webster last Saturday (2/24/07), and it was incredible. I’ve been listening to Keller for over a year now, but I hadn’t actually seen him live until then. He puts on a really good show, which ran for about three hours in total.
I hope to see a lot of him in the future, and I’ll be sure to let folks know when he’s in the area again.

Also, the Webster is a really dumpy venue, but that didn’t take anything away from the show, which I am thankful for.

I think the best way to describe the show is the following story:
When I got home around 1am, and I looked in the bathroom mirror, I realized I was still smiling, even though I wasn’t conscious of it. So I tried to relax the muscles around my mouth as much as I could, and I still had a big grin on my face. I must have been smiling all night. :)

I apologise for not having anything more interesting to post than YouTube videos, but I really don’t. No major philosophical breakthroughs, no multimillion dollar businesses (yet); and I’ve spent most of my time doing work. I even got a job. Crazy.
So I suppose I’ll just tip all of you avid readers off to some shows I’ll be heading to in the coming days/weeks/months.
Natalie McMaster is coming to the Jorgensen in a few weeks.
Keller Williams is coming to the Webster Theater soon after that.
And then of course there is Bonnaroo, and tickets should be going on sale for that soon.

In case anyone keeps checking the site and gets frustrated that I don’t update often enough, I’m always updating the Linkroll on the sidebar, so you can check that.

Anamorphic Cycle

So, to make up for not posting a music file in the last entry, I’m devoting this entire entry to a music file.

This is woobiee’s Anamorphic Cycle, which is a complete album, and a very good one at that. He has since come out with a new album, and is no longer hosting this file. I thought I had lost it when my hard drive died, but I got a copy from a friend today.

So I’ll keep this file on my server as long as I have hosting, so others can enjoy it.

Austin City Limits

In a Colorful Night, The Clover Show, and In the Basement, all by the Wild Band of Snee

So this is more of a PSA than anything else, but this weekend is the Austin City Limits music festival.  If you’re not lucky enough to be there, AT&T is streaming the show in their blue room.

I’ve gotta say, if you have a good internet connection, and are at least curious about the bands playing this weekend, the blue room is a great service.  I was lucky enough to catch most of this years Bonnaroo on there, and it was a great experience, even if I couldn’t actually be there.

The fest starts on Friday and lasts through Sunday, so theres no excuse to not catch at least one group.

The bands that jump out at me are:
For Friday, Guster at 2:30PM, Nickel Creek at 4:30, Thievery Corporation at 6:30, and John Mayer at 8:15.
For Saturday, Ben Kweller at 2:30PM, The Secret Machines at 3:30, Los Lobos at 4:30, String Cheese Incident at 6:30, and Los Lonely Boys at 9:00.
For Sunday, KT Tunstall at 2:30PM, Calexico at 4:30, the Flaming Lips at 6:30, Ben Harper at 7:00, Muse and then Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers wrapping up the night.
By the way, all those times are central, so adjust accordingly, or you might miss whoever you wanted to see…if you live on the west coast.

Yes, I know listed more than half the bands for almost every day.  I’ll probably be watching the ones I didn’t list as well, if I’m free.  Thankfully, the festival format introduces fans to bands they aren’t really familliar with.

So, watch these great performances, if you can.  That is all.
