Non-Lyric Blog

Seriously, I don’t get the blog entries entirely cocsisting of lyrics. Its like modern art. It may mean something to the artist/poster, but it means something completely different, if anything at all, to everyone else.

Anyway, I took last week off as most of you probably noticed. At the end of the week, I started to get the urge to rebuild the site. No worries, I won’t be doing it for a long time if ever.

I’ve been feelin kinda sick today, so that means I’ll be sitting in front of my computer for most of today, which means I’ll get everything worth posting posted.

Finals Week

If you’re curious why there have been little/no updates to somjuan, this should only be until Friday. This is finals week at UConn, and much of my time is devoted to studying (I need to learn math tomorrow).

In the meantime, if you keep submitting articles, they’ll keep getting posted (I do notice and appreciate those).

Pity me, and all fellow students who have to wade through this mess.

Ann Coulter

Thats right. Ann Coulter was speaking at UConn today.

And she packed the Jorgensen (2640 seats…or so). This is basically the College Republicans’ response to Cindy Sheehan’s talk on Monday this week. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about Sheehan until Tuesday, so I don’t know how many people were there or how crazy she was (but I can guess).

There is a huge line outside, where people are waiting in the friggin cold to get in. Some people decided to take advantage of all the people just chilling there to pass out some flyers. All were more or less anti Coulter, but some were more fun than others. My personal favourite:

Anyway, once we got inside, we figured out why the line was moving so slowly. Everyone who went in was getting frisked, and no backpacks, food, or…well…anything was being allowed in. The frisking was pretty half assed, if I must say. My friend got a knife in (not malicious, just something he carries), and the guard apparantly didn’t notice the huge lump that was my cell phone. Whatever.

We actually got decent seats, on the left (heh) hand side, about five rows from the stage. Kinda wish I knew we would be sitting behind the College Republicans before hand, but alas, there was no turning back.

Ann shows up late, which was extremely annoying, because I was coming down from a sugar high (about an entire package of Swedish Fish). First thing I notice – she is really, really skinny. She’d make Lindsay Lohan look fat. She was accompanied by three dudes in suits who I assumed were body guards, although I was pretty sure they couldn’t stop anyone. Maybe its just the suits that do that to them. Either way, I don’t notice anything for about five minutes because the College Republicans decided she deserved a standing ovation.

Now, for some reason, I honestly thought she’d be using this chance to actually talk about her views, and perhaps try to convince people she actually knew what she was talking about. But no, her talk consisted of ad hominem attacks against Democratic Party members and other people who didn’t agree with her views.

She didn’t explain why or how these people were wrong, but rest assured, they were. Again, I didn’t see Sheehan’s talk, and it probably wasn’t much better (I’m not a fan of either of these women for the record), but I sincerely hope it was more to the point than Ann’s.

Her talk was cut short, however, by someone who tapped into the PA system. I’m not sure if it was the main PA or another set of speakers, but the song Kyle’s Mom is a Bitch from the South Park Movie started to blast. She stopped talking until they figured out how to silence this song, which was a solid five to eight minutes.

Now, I thought this was funny, and a pretty good prank by whoever pulled it off. But it should have stopped sooner. Once they had ‘fixed’ this, she had a few breif words with the body guard standing next to her (seriously, I think I could take this guy out) and announced that she’d be going straight to the Q & A portion of the night.
Seeing how her talk had been going, this was a welcome change of events.

Now, couple things about the Q & A. It really could have done without the insults and the ass-kissing. Both were really annoying, and sucked up time. None were too original or very funny. Some notable questions were (I’m paraphrasing):

Which brand of pen do you use to draw your Hitler moustashe?

And

Is there anything that you could tell us that we don’t know about you?

That question was asked, sincerely, by one of her supporters. There were some good responses from the audience, like “I enjoy long walks on the beach…”, etc.

What I did like about the Q & A section was it actually got her to answer some questions and share her views, which she was obviously never getting to in her talk. Some good questions:

Student: “What would you tell your son if he came out of the closet?”
Ann: ” ‘Did I mention you’re adopted?’ “

Student: “How do you feel about premarital sex?”
Ann: “First of all, that is the worst pick-up line I’ve ever heard.”

Which, I have to admit, is funny. Unfortunately, she tried to keep the joke going, which of course killed it, and never actually answered the question. Way to go.

There were a couple other very good questions, about womens’ right to vote, among other things, but I can’t remember them right now. I’ll post them if I do.

In conclusion, Ann Coulter can blow me.

PagCam

I got myself a bunch of random tech to make my life happier. Or something.

New mouse, new keyboard (much needed upgrades), and a webcam.

http://cam.somjuan.com

expect it to be randomly not working, cause the software I use isn’t exactly registered yet, so it drops out after a little while. It’ll get better.

Now you can see all the stupid crap going on in my dorm.

Its about a 20 second delay from whats actually happening.

NyQuil

God I love that drug. I slept so well last night. Then I slept for more this afternoon. So freaking good.

This is just a cheap excuse for an entry so I can give Arrg a shoutout cause he turned 18 today.

I dunno if he even reads this site anymore. As if it matters.

b’oh!

Alright. I haven’t updated in a little while. Here are some fun stories / excuses why.

On Friday, I had a major, major chem test. I studied. A lot. And I still wasn’t totally prepared. After the test, everyone I spoke to (even the smart kids) thought the test was damn near impossible. And not just the normal after test complaining either. I think that I literally got a 20 on it.

Anyway, Friday night was fun enough. There was java and chilling to be had all around. And mike joined the party too, so that was rather cool. Unfortunately, hanging out behind destinta turned out to be mike’s undoing, and he was pretty sick all saturday.

So saturday, we saw three movies. Jack, Deedee, an me. Thats right. “Me”, not “I”. And I left the punctuation outside of the quotation marks twice. Take that.
Wallace and Gromit, Stay, and Doom. I still don’t exactly know what happened in Stay, but Wallace and Gromit was decent (not as good as the shorts, but still good), and Doom was easily the best of the three. Except for the ending. They should really let me write these things. The first person shots were perfectly done. And thankfully, it doesn’t even try to stay close to the ‘storyline’ of the game. That would have probably ruined it.

Also, The Rock can’t say ‘fuck’, and I don’t know whats up with that. He just can’t. It doesn’t work. Meh

Deedee booked after Stay, and Jack and I hit up Jerry’s after Doom. Now…once we were done with our pizza, we started to wait for our check. It didn’t come, and Jack was dead set on staying until they closed to see if we’d get it. It never came, and we ended up paying at the register. Theres more to that story that would make it funny, but I really don’t feel like explaining it. It’d be too much backstory.

Anyway

Doom is a perfect pump-up movie for laser tag, which we were planning on doing later. Only problem was, Laser Quest wasn’t doing an Iron Man, they were doing an all nighter from 12-6 am. Physically and mentally, I could have done it. My only problem was Monday morning, at 8, I had a chem discussion that I need to show up for to find out what the deal was with that test.
I’ve missed that class on days where I’ve gotten enough sleep, just cause its so damn early and I can’t pull it off. So all nighter was a no go.

For the rest of the night, we just trolled around looking for things to do and finding them all closed.

There was a golf ball in that story somewhere.

huzzah, my weekend.

SomWear

Ah, finally.

I’ve been hardcore slacking on these things, but its finally gonna happen.

I’ll be selling them from this site.
I’ll be accepting PayPal, credit cards (through PayPal), and cash (only in a face to face transaction).

The advantage of ordering online is its first come first serve for sizes. I’ve got 4 Mediums, buncha larges, and 4 XLs coming my way. So if you order online, you make my life easier, and get a better chance of getting the size you want (because the two extremes may sell out).

I don’t know what shipping charges will be yet, but I’ll be sure to let you all know. Of course the advantage is most of you know me personally, so if you’d like to save some cash, I can just get it to you the next time I see you.

As for the price, I’m not sure yet, I’ll run the numbers. I think its going to be in the area of $15, but I’ll probably drop the price on the first day or something like that.

So next on the list is the Buh hat. That so isn’t going to be coming anytime soon. Hopefully before Easter?

I gotta get on top of this.

Disoriented

I just woke up, its 8:30pm, and I can’t remember going to bed, or how long I was out. My roommate says it was at least three hours, because thats how long he’d been around, but it could have been more.

The funny thing is, that wasn’t enough. I’m gonna do some work, update the site, and go at it again.

Wait

I’m starting to remember. Ok, I laid down, because I had eaten way too much swedish fish, and I wasn’t feeling so hot. Man, if thats all it takes, I’m gonna need to do this more often.

Still tired. Today shall be half-assed entries. Sorry, it couldn’t be helped.

Oh! People might like to know this.

I ordered the first round of tshirts yesterday, so I should probably change the poll.
These are the shirts that say “I’m better than you because I have a shirt that says so. But I left it at home”.
So there is something like a two week turnaround, which isn’t bad. I’ll be shipping them myself, so I would expect about three weeks before you can start ordering shirts.
You can of course still get stuff at the CafePress store if you want to, but these shirts are quality, unlike the ones in cpress.

Uhh…what else

Man, there are some still left in the bag. They’re calling to me. I should have finished them when I had the chance. Green, yellow, red…this is gonna be a long night.

Serenity

Oh, right, I’ve been meaning to post something about this for a couple days, but I forget, because I apparently can’t remember anything anymore.

I won’t be around this weekend, so a Screening for Serenity is sketchy at best. If someone else wants to host it, I’ll gladly put times and such up, but know that it won’t be me.

Uh, what else…I’ve got a test in like 30 minutes, so I should probably study…or something.

Meh.
